The new headquarters of the National Institute of Statistics in Madrid rehabilitates the obsolete building that for more than 30 years has housed this Institution. Outdated and non-compliant facilities, inadequate functional organizations, anachronistic work and communication systems for new technologies, have required a comprehensive remodeling of its old structures.

Since the competition we wanted the building to be committed to incorporate all kinds of proposals for energy saving and environmental commitment. Thus, a roof cooling system has been installed by means of an absorption machine, photovoltaic panels in canopies integrated in the south facade, vacuum tube panels in the bioclimatic module on the roof, deep holes to attenuate solar radiation, special glass with maximum energy efficiency, passive cooling systems for facades, use of materials with controlled energy cycle, waste management, water cycle management, evaporative systems, low consumption installations, solar protection louvers, etc.
