Passivhaus, or passive house, is a construction standard, born in Germany in 1991 that has extended for the rest of the world and which is currently in phase of adaptation to the different climate areas. Passivhaus buildings get a high interior comfort, with very low energy consumption, to reducing by 75% the heating and cooling needs, thanks to the existing resources optimization through passive techniques. The little additional power required can be covered easily from renewable energy, becoming a construction with a very low energy cost and at an affordable price to the owner.
The Passivhaus standard is a construction model for zero energy balance buildings, since conforms with 2010/31/EU European Directive about the energy efficiency of buildings. Its application also reached the energy rehabilitation projects, following the Passivhaus-enerPhit standardkey concepts.
